There
are many beautiful golf courses in the Highlands of Scotland
but surely none more scenic than the one to be found nestling
beside the Abernethy Forest at Boat of Garten. With the majestic
Cairngorms as a backdrop, a truly breathtaking setting.Designed
by one of the grand-masters of golf course architeture - James
Braid, "The Boat" is not only a demanding test of
sporting skill but also a magnificent setting for the game.

                     The
view from the clubhouse, over the 1st and 2nd fairways and
beyond to the Cairngorm mountains - with such distinctive
features as the Lairig Ghru and the northern corries of Braeriach
                    - is incomparable, certainly within the realms of Scottish
golf. The rare Osprey, on occasions, can be seen here, and
deer are a common sight emerging shyly from the trees. "The
Boat is only 5866 yards long with a Par 69, and SSS 69 but
it is still a very fine test of golf, with demanding tee shots
and hanging lies in the fairway more often associated with
the seaside. Professional Gary Harvey has managed a 64 round
"The Boat" but the amateur record remains at 67,
a testament to just how difficult it is to score well.

This Highland grandeur, depending on the day, can inspire
high achievement or, in the more common event of disappointing
performance, affords the comfort and consulation of communing
with nature in uniquely attractive surroundings. Popular with
visitors, from both home and abroad, the course has become
firmly established as a "must" for those enjoying
a golfing tour of the Scottish Highlands. It really is worth
the pligramage, as the tranquility and beauty of the place
                    is not to be missed.
